Irma Applewood is middle aged, mid-American and menopausal. Along with a pubescent daughter and a rebellious son, she is confronted with all the pressures of modern life, elderly relatives that are growing frail, running a house, making sure the bills are paid. Even her normally reliable husband, Roy, seems to be falling apart.

Worried about the state of her marriage, she initiates counselling session for her and her husband with their local ... pastor, a decision that sets in motion a series of events that threatens to tear her family apart. Confronted by her husband’s shock announcement that he seeks gender realignment, Irma has to grapple with her feelings for Roy whilst trying to maintain some sense of normality. As time progresses towards Roy’s impending surgery, Irma makes a choice that challenges the preconceptions of her friends, family and discovers the true meaning of love.
